In response to the swearing in of Valerie Williams as Director of the Office of Special Education (OSEP) in the U.S. Department of Education, Lauren Morando Rhim, co-founder and executive director of the Center for Learner Equity (“the Center”) issued the following statement:
“The Center is pleased that Valerie Williams has been chosen to serve as the director of the Office of Special Education. Her unique background as a leader in disability policy and her experience working to support states as they implement the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), make Valerie well-qualified, and we know she will strive to support states and districts in their efforts to improve outcomes for this nation’s 7 million students with disabilities, including over 330,000 students with disabilities enrolled in charter schools. Valerie’s deep commitment to ensuring that every child has access to fair, equitable, and high-quality education will guide her work. We look forward to partnering with her so that every child can achieve educational success.”
